Description
HarpCI is a project led by Balandino Di Donato and Eleanor Turner that combines composition and performance with the harp and research in Human Computer Interaction (HCI) and Music Interaction Design (MiXD). Primary outcomes of the project are MyoSpat, a hand gesture control system for manipulation of sound and lights, and The Wood And The Water, composed and performed by Eleanor Turner. This project has also produced a series of workshops focused on electronic harp performance and delivered at Cardiff Metropolitan University for Camac Harp Weekend, Royal Birmingham Conservatoire’s Integra Lab and Southampton University.
The project culminated in a journal article published in 2020: Balandino Di Donato, James Dooley & Lamberto Coccioli (2020): HarpCI, Empowering Performers to Control and Transform Harp Sounds in Live Performance, Contemporary Music Review, Volume 38, 2019 – Issue 6: The Twenty-First-Century Harp.
